RE: 156 oil change interval

Hi John,

I bought a 1999 156 2.0 156 TS about 2 months ago. It had 60,000 kms on
it, and had the 60K service done as I got it. It seems that that was
it's 3rd oilchange in it's life (according to the servicebook) I have
now put about 4,500 km on it and am checking the oil about every 2nd
fillup, so far it has consumed 1/2 liter of oil, which doesn't seem so
bad. The Alfa Romeo owners manuals I have recommends oilchange every
20,000 km, unless you are in dusty environments or drive the car very
rough, then the interval is 10,000. What I understand is that the engine
is constructed to use these superduper highquality synthetic oils. I use
Q8 10W40 Extreme at a price of USD 20 per liter....

My 74 Spider gets an oilchange about every 5,000 km with good ole dino
oil like Castrol GTX 20W50 or Kendall 20W50.

A friend of mine has just bought a new 2002 156 Twin Spark.

The car has now done about 2000km, and the next service is due at
20,000km.
The dealer has recommended an oil change every 10,000km, but to me even
that sounds a bit long. Most Alfisti seem to chane oil at about
5,000km.

Does anybody have any thoughts on what would be best for a 156?

Thanks Alfistsi!
