Re: cheap oxy sensor

You can use any generic O2 sensor on your 164 (or any other Alfa sold
in the US). The only difference is the connector. If you're reasonably
handy with wire strippers and crimpers, you can move the connectors from
your old O2 sensor to a new $20-40 generic sensor. Bosch and NGK make
the bulk of the sensors available for sale.

The only matching up you need to do is the number of wires coming out
of the sensor: one wire (unheated, only on older cars [no 164s]),
three wire (heated, sensor uses exhaust as ground), and four wire
(heated, and the sensor has a ground wire). There are off-the-shelf
generic sensors available in all three types for under $50 from any
generic auto parts store. A four-wire sensor can be used on any car,
even one-wire cars (just run the sensor ground wire to ground and leave
the heater wires disconnected).
