Only transaxle Alfisti need read this - an original?

First off, thanks to all who gave advice regarding my Milano problems over
the last few days.

To all those who offered opinions on the initial problem: you were all right
and wrong. Right: probably not transmission. Wrong: clutch plate detonation
or other plate-related failure.

I've never heard of this happening and wanted to pass it on for the good of
mankind or at least Alfakind. If you dismantle the clutch assembly, pay
extra special attention to those two large threaded rings which hold
together the bearings assembly on the forward part of the clutch housing.

These two guys aren't accessible from the exterior in any way. Like the two
nuts which hold the tri-armed giubo-holder at the front of the housing,
these rings use friction to remain in place. I would suggest the addition of
Locktite as well.

This is what happened: the rings worked their way loose allowing the shaft
from the flywheel to the giubo-holder to slide backwards. This caused the
bearing cover (sort of a large, flanged washer) to contact the clutch
housing and milled it to the point that the clutch could no longer be
disengaged.

All's well that ends well, however. I have a spare housing with good
bearings from my old GTV6 parts car so I think I'll be OK. Plus, in
preparation for this adventure, I bought a new clutch plate -- so I get a
new clutch out of the deal (the old one looks like it's got about 10 - 20 K
miles left on it.)

Once again, thanks to all for your advice.
