Coolant expansion tank refurb

As I continue with the final assembly of Project Alfa everything is so shiny
and clean. I dug out the coolant expansion tank and - yuk.

I remember awhile back someone mentioned how they had cleaned it up by
filling it with little rocks or walnut shells or something and wrapping it
in a towel and running it in the dryer with no heat for an hour or so.

Anybody have any ideas?
