RE: Slightly off topic - but here goes!

john, i recall that during this years canadian [i think] grand prix, the
commentators noted that david coulthard's mclaren was smoking during right
turns and eventually concluded that the folks manning the telemetry were
"topping up" the cars engine oil by remote control [in fact over-filling
it-causing the smoke which eventually stopped], saying the engine oil system
could be supplemented with an on-board oil reservoir. i guess as long as the
oilo is somewhere on board its ok?

Hi All,

I just read the most amazing advert in a local car magazine!

Mobil 1 has a full page advertisement with a picture of the McLaren F1 car.
The thread
runs something like - "Although during a Formula 1 Grand Prix the McLaren F1
cars come
into the pits to change the wheels/tyres and to refuel, they never have to
add Mobil 1
oil. The oil which ---- blah, blah, balh etc"

Don't these advertising bozos know anything about Formula 1 regulations??

Go and look at the F1 technical specifications and rules governing a F1
race. Here you
will see that "replenishment of oils and coolants is prohibited during the
race".

Oh and BTW the McLaren F1 cars burn about 2L of the precious Mobil 1 oil
during a 200 mile
race. You thought your old Alfa was thirsty?

Just thought you would like to know.

Down off soapbox.
