RE : paint job

you get what you pay for with a paint job.

the majority of the cost of a decent job
is in the labor preparation, not the painting
itself. a reasonable quality urethane paint
alone will cost $500 or more for an average
sized car. the cost of the paint for top line
glasurit urethane could get over $1000.

to prep the car, the old paint needs to be
scuffed for adhesion. door dings and
other imperfections need to be fixed. a
sealer needs to be sprayed over the old paint
so no contamination between old and new
occurs. trim must be masked or preferably
removed. undercarriage needs to be masked.
etc, etc, etc. . .

lots of labor involved at $50/hour to do it right.
virtually any paintshop can do a good job if
paid enough. but good repair work on older
cars is hard to come by, especially at insurance
claim style, main stream shops.

bottom line: shop around and get references
of your local shops, and spend the most you
can afford.
