Brake booster diagnostic?
I'm getting ready to dive into the brakes on the
Berlina, but I have a couple questions before I start
reading credit-card numbers off to the usual parts
suppliers.
Several people have asked me whether the problems are
with the vacuum assist boosters or with the
hydraulics, and it's caused me to admit that I have no
clue.
While I've done a full brake system overhaul on
several cars (including my old '67 GT Junior) and done
standard maintenance on several others (including my
'74 Spider), I've never had to do a full overhaul on a
car with power brakes (such as my '73 Berlina). This
Berlina has the later-style single-booster setup,
which at least simplifies things over the dual-booster
cars from a few years earlier.
Still, the vacuum assist is a new wrinkle for me. So
what are the standard tests to determine whether
braking problems are with the booster or with the
hydraulics?
Thanks,
