Re: what gasket is this?

Hi Nick:

The only gasket I've ever used (or seen for that matter) between the mid and rear exhaust sections is the thick metal/asbestos donut type. I'd never thought about it, but a flat flange type gasket might also work. The advantage to the donut is that it allows for some adjustment in the alignment of the rear section's tailpipe, relative to the car body. The donut keeps the two flanges separated by perhaps 10mm, and by tightening one of the three bolts more than the other two (just one example) you can change the angle of the rear section slightly. On my '74 Spider there is a small cutout for the tailpipe in the rear valence, and by adjusting the fitting of those two flanges, I was able to get the tailpipe centered properly in the cutout.

Subject: what gasket is this?

I'm looking at Alfa Romeo parts diagrams and the gasket is shows between the
rear and center silencers is part number "102.00.09.700.01", same as used
between the manifolds and downpipes. The only thing is, the AR diagram
depicts a fat, doughnut insert type of gasket rather than the normal flat
type. They have the same part numbers.

Can somebody please confirm what gasket belongs between the rear and center
silencers?

It looks like the same parts apply to 750, 101 and 105 series cars.
