'77 Spider Rubber Bumper Repair
Well I finally took the rear bumper off my '77 Spider
to see what I could do about the splitting that seems
to be getting worse. The metal frame inside is getting
progressively rustier and as a result is expanding in
size so that the top and bottom portions of said bumper
are splitting. The exterior of the bumper is in fine shape.
Having removed the bumper for a closer inspection it looks
like the rubber was molded around the metal frame with no
apparent way to remove the rubber from the metal. The only
way I can imagine to repair this thing is to cut the rubber
portion in half to get to the metal to restore it, and then find
some way of fastening the rubber portion back on. The silver
band will hide the fact that the top and bottom portion have been
seperated. Am I on the right track or have I lost my mind?
Thanks in advance,
