Wahoo!

Hoist a cold with me, lads and lassies -- the engine is back in the GTV!
Started about 5:00 this afternoon, and hit the shower at 10:00 PM.

I have been trying to figure out when I originally pulled it out. Best as
memory will serve, it was near Thanksgiving -- late November for the non-USA
crowd. So, it was out for nearly 6 months.

I put it back in all by my lonesome, and while it wasn't the toughest
one-person job I've ever attempted, it certainly would have been easier with
help. Next time (and of course there will be a next time -- it is an Alfa) I
will ply my AROO mates with food, drink, and whatever other pleasures of the
flesh are needed to get one or two of them over here to help, or at least
offer encouragement and band-aids.

The damage report is minimal -- a few dings in the fresh engine compartment
paint, but nothing that can't be easily touched up. My forearms look like
I've been snuggling a porcupine -- the last few millimeters to get the engine
mounts to drop onto the studs on the crossmember required a fair bit of
wrestling. My hands were remarkably clean -- but then the engine, trans and
the hole they went back in were all spotless. Too bad the rest of the car is
still a contender for the "anti-concours".

This weekend I'll run through the list of connections I made as I prepared to
engine to come out. All I did today was bolt up the driveline to the donut,
connect the speedo cable and bolt up the back trans mount. If I get busy
early on Saturday I should be attempting to start it by noon or so.

Wish me luck!
