164 side lamps

Is there an easy way to change the side lamp bulbs in a 164? Unless one is 
very small with hands and wrists to match, it is almost impossible for a big 
boned person to get in there to twist off the socket as illustrated in the 
manual. Does one have to loosen the entire lamp assembly to do it ?
Also, I am ready for new front brake pads. How hard is is to change them, as 
I believe the caliper has to come off ?
