Let me respond to myself.
I stated that my Spica Spider does in fact have a Behr A/C system which 
I installed, this is true.
I also stated that there are no clearance problems with the unit, also 
true.
I failed to mention that the air pump was removed long ago by a previous 
owner, and also that the battery is in the trunk on my 78 unlike some 
earlier models.  I suppose these two little details could make an 
important difference.
If the original poster is interested I could put some photos of the 
installation online.
