It sounds as though the accelerator pump in your carburetor has failed.
The accelerator pump is a small mechanical plunger that squirts fuel in
once as the throttle opens. With the engine off, looking into the
carburetor, pull the throttle linkage, you should see a smooth stream of
fuel.
