Mazda V6
>>As far as I know, outside exotics like Ferrari and near exotics
like Porsche, only Mazda went to the expense of designing a mass produced
engine with the crank captured between two halves of the crankcase
casting.<<
I thought the bolted together blocks like this were weaker, and that is why
while the Beetle flat 4 was bolted together, the Sud engine used a one
piece block with cross bolted main bearing caps, as it resulted in a
stronger engine
With a V6 you would think that the angle of the V would give far
more space to set up a suitable cross bolted location for the crank
All the best
