164 heater hoses

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had any luck replacing the molded heater hoses on the 164 with
normal (non-molded) bulk hose?  The short one from the heater core to the
expansion tank looks like it would be especially tough, given the sharp bend
it makes after it passes through the false firewall.

Any comment would be greatly appreciated,
