Re: lower wishbone assembly
from alfa manual/cardisk:
nuts securing lower A arm to wishbone cross member = 64 lb/ft
bolts securing lower wishbone shaft to cross member = 40.5/42.6 lb./ft
nuts securing lower ball joint to wishbone = 59.3/66.5 lb/ft
nut securing lower ball joint to steering knuckle = 54.2/61.4 lb/ft
nut secruing steering arm to steering knuckle = 28.9/32.5
nut securing shock absorber to lower A arm = 54.6/61.4
don't know for sure, but my parts diagram shows the washer going under the
bolt head.
the lower arm bushings act more like a bearing - the inner tube clamps to the
cross member shaft when the nut is tightend correctly. the outer shell of
the bushing is pressed in the A arm "knuckle". the two slide independently
over the inner bearing surface as the arm goes up and down. There is no
preload possible here, arm moves freely. ifit feels stiff, is ok, will
loosen up.
Car doesn't have to be on the ground to tighten these bolts.
as a mater of course, should check the round sectioned shafts of the wishbone
base - they should be round in section and not scored. if not, renew - used
is ok, just have to be round and smooth.
BTW, if you mount the ball joint in the arms before you put the arms on the
car, how do you propose to get the arms onto the crossmember shaft?
