Snapped power window cable

Hi list!

Recently my driver's side power window stopped working on my '81 Spider. Upon 
taking apart the door to investigate, I found this to be caused by a snapped 
regulator cable. It seems as if the cable has snapped right near or even from 
within where it disappears into the hole of the winding deal (Italian 
techincal term :-) on the window motor, and of course the other loose end has 
gotten all tangled up around the spindle. Might anyone be able to point me in 
the direction of a good "how-to" for replacing or re-splicing the cable? My 
"Alfa Rome Owner's Bible" book is absolutely no help in the matter.
