Karl,

All of the 164s with spoilers (that's what they are -SPOILERS!) and spring style hinges
require a stronger spring to hold the trunk (boot) lid up. Once you've lifted a 164
trunk (boot) lid with a spoiler on it without the assistance of springs or struts
you'll have a gut feeling why this is so - hopefully, it won't be a hernia! ;-D
