Ignition Switch

A friend in the Nashville chapter lost his only key to his 86 spider. I am
trying to help him out by trying to put in a switch (with keys) from an 89
parts car that I stripped. Problem is that the 86 and 89 were wired
differently.
It appears that the 86 has an ignition courtesy light (??) that the 89 does
not have???
The 86 has a large sheathed group of four cables with a red, brown, and green
in one connector and a black in a separate connector. I looked at my 86 and
it appears that the green cable ends at the connector, that is, the other end
that it connects to does not have anything hitting the green cable. The 89
has three cables in the large sheath; red, brown, and black, all in one
connector.
My question about this part is can I just put the red and brown from the 89
into the three way connector for the 86 and ignore the green that the 86 had,
then put the black from the 89 in the separate connector for the 86.
Now, both the 86 and the 89 have a separate small sheath with two wires,
problem is that the 86 has two black wires. One with a tiny female connector
that attaches to one of two small white boxes above and to the right of the
steering column, the other is a larger spade connector that attaches to a
female connector with a rubber shield over the connection.
The 89 has one red and one black wire that are both in a single connector with
a larger spade for both. Can I cut the connector and put connectors on like
the 86, and if so would the red or the black need to go to the small white box
above the steering column?
Speaking of lost keys, before we tried to do this swap I called Delmas Green
and he put me in touch with Tony (?) at ARI in Orlando to see if we could
obtain the key codes to get the keys replaced. I was told the the key codes
were lost when they converted to Y2K!!! I am ordering additional blanks to
all of my cars and having copies made to put in eight or ten places in the
house, the office, the safety deposit box, with trusted friends. A new switch
is a about $100 and installation as you can see from above is a PITA.
Speaking of PITA's, I am going to install a new A\C compressor on my Milano
and I want to put on new hoses and clean everything up in the process to make
sure that this one doesn't blow as well. The hose that goes from the
compressor through the firewall...do you have to completely strip the interior
of the car to get to that sucker on the inside to replace?
