Yeah little late to the party I know...
Back in summer of '99 on the way to the KC Convention in '91 164S, Gordy
& I filled up just north of KC, rolling in on fumes. The gas station's
premium unleaded was rated at 90, plus was 87 & regular was 85. Yes
those numbers are correct. I filled the tank with premium. Immediately
upon pulling out of the gas station, the car started
knocking/pinging/pinking. It kept doing this, but less so if I kept a
light throttle. I found another gas station with 91 octane after
burning half a tank or so & that fixed it, the pinging went away at
least. In the Seattle area I believe most of the gas stations have 92
octane & I have never had a problem with it pinging. That's my story &
I'm stickin' to it.
