OK, ill-related news on two fronts: a light plane crashed into pretty much
the only tall building in Milano, the Pirelli Tower, which I believe now
houses Commune/municipal offices, no longer the rubber and tires company that
sometimes supplied OEM tires for Alfas. A tragedy, indeed, but said to be an
ordinary accident and not done by intent.
Actor Robert Blake (not his real name), who played Barrette on US TV, was
arrested for the shooting of his wife (who was herself a grifter) after
dinner at Vitals, one of our neighborhood pizzerias last year. Police say
Blake did not have the class to use an Italian Baretta, but carried a WWII
German .38 which he supposedly dropped out of his belt in the pizzeria. Mrs.
B was shot with another, unidentified gun. Friends who worked with Blake on
TV in the past say he is an unbalanced and nasty piece of work (using,
however, somewhat more colorful terms). Vitello's likes to give pride of
place in the lot if and when a customer comes in an Italian car. I bet the
place will be jammed now.
