RE: 'Bye, AlfaBill

Am I the only one who understood the "wink wink nudge nudge" in AlfaBills
trademark comment?
Look and ye shall find.

"Hell, I'd rather drive the 4 hours to Tampa than the
45 minutes to my nearest dealership."

Not an unheard-of practice. I know an artist with digs
up in rural Jamestown, Tennessee who used to drive his
GTV6 down to Spruell's shop whenever it needed
attention...and when I was inquiring about good Alfa
mechanics in SoCal, at least two of the respondents
mentioned that they'd relocated far from their shop of
choice, but continued to patronize it anyway.

What I'm gonna miss most isn't just Bill's prices (the
best!) or his service (conscientious if a tad
scatterbrained, just because he's always so damn
busy), but the fact that he returns phone calls, and
is unfailingly polite, concerned, and a lot of fun to
talk to. I haven't gotten much from him in the last
two years, since our own Bill (Werner) has a very good
stock of used and useful Alfa parts, but I was still
saddened by the news. I'm also afraid Mastro's
abandonment of the Old Alfa Bits market will not be
the last, unless they start making new 105/115/116
cars again REALLY soon...
