starter current

The starter switch does not have to carry the hundreds of amps required by
the starter motor. The contacts on the starter solenoid take care of the
high current. The switch only has to handle the current required by the
solenoid coil. The current draw of a solenoid is dependant on the position
of the armature with respect to the coil. At steady state, I expect that is
just a few amps. Wiring a relay between the switch and the solenoid would
reduce the current through the switch to less than 1 amp. This might be a
smart move if ignition switches are going to become NLA.
