convertible top help pleeeeease

Hey all,
I have been working a bit lately on my 73 spider interior resto and was
fooling a bit with the new canvas top. I didn't have the old top to go by so
I'm pretty much doing it by the manual. (it didnt come with any instructions).
I have already gotten the front of the top attached to the front header bow
and the new metal weatherstrip holder and weatherstrip is installed. Well here
is my question, when i installed the front of the
top, I cut the front top pocket so the top comes just to the metal
weatherstrip channel, but not under it.(this is what the manual showed) and
glued it across next to that channel using the yellow contact cement. After
all that was done, it seemed to me that it would hold better if the fabric was
UNDER the metal channel that got pop riveted on the header bow. Of course its
now too late to do that, so do you think it will hold the way I have it now? I
know there will be LOTS of pulling and stretching the top once I attach it on
the stud rails at the rear. I will be putting rivets in the front corners as
per instructions so I'm not too worried about the corners, only the middle. I
pulled on the middle area some to
kinda see how it is holding and it seems to pull out some enough to make the
front edge bead ride up too far(more than the factory manual shows). Am I
doing this right so far? If not, what would be an good method of attaching the
middle area to the header bow? I would MUCH appreciate any advice from people
who have done the canvas (or even the vinyl) top before. Thanks!
