Your pall is worn out. What's worse, the part you need is NLA
(no longer available) - you can buy the whole handbrake
assembly (for about 300 bucks), or you can call APE and hope
they have another one to pull (after the one I got a few
months ago).
There's a semicircular bracket with ratchet steps along the
inside. The metal piece at the end of the handbrake's push
button that engages this ratchet bracket is called a pall (as
I found out). This is the part that wears out. You can get
a new ratchet bracket - it's still available - but it probably
won't solve the problem. The actual part you need is the
assembly that lives inside the handbrake lever, extending from
the button to the pall. Unfortunately, it's NLA, so you need
to get a used one.
