re: arrrgh

alfisti,

the diagnosis for the inoperative clutch on my milano
is: "insufficient torque on the clutch fork pivot
bolt".

the pivot bolt was unscrewing itself, which explains
the sudden floorward movement of the pedal's
engagement position. then it worked out far enough
that the fork was resting against the far side of the
hole in the clutch housing. that explains the suddenly
extremely heavy pedal. and finally, in the end i was
pumping fluid past the slave cylinder's seal.

this time i think i'll loctite the bolt, since i did
torque it down to what i thought was pretty tight for
a steel bolt going into an Al casting.

a question is: can i still trust the seal on the
slave? or should i get a new seal/slave (does anyone
sell just the seal?)? and finally, does anyone know of
a magic tool for tightening the pivot bolt? when i had
the clutch housing off, it was easy. but if do it with
the housing on, it looks like i'll have a tough time
getting the job done with just an 11mm wrench.

all in all, i'm relieved that it wasn't something
truly catastrophic.

thanks,
