I was reading the lengthy thread on your 94 Alfa Spider questions.  Here are 
some answers:

On the speedometer - it's an electronic unit with a cable run from the 
tranny to a little box mounted in the engine bay, then wires from the box to 
the speedometer.  The cable is generally the culprit.

Tachometer - it is likely bad.  I found it to be hit or miss on these 
things, but it is very easy to replace the unit.
