Miata seats---and shoulder harnesses



I shot pix of my seats while ago, but they are inexplicably soft 
focus.  I'll reshoot and have them for anybody who wants to see the 
installation by this afternoon.  Just e-mail me.

Meanwhile, Bill Bain observes:

"The biggest issue is that just about any seat you might use is wider
than the stock Spider seat and the stock seats are a tight fit,
particularly on the passenger side. Also most after market seats (can't
speak to Miata seats) have their adjuster controls on the outside of the
seat and that's a cozy fit in a Spider, to say the least."

My Miata seats ride on their original sliders with the handles to the 
inside and very convenient.  Joe Kollmann welded simple tabs on the inside 
mounting rails and I just redrilled and flattened the outside 
rails.  Bolted right in, took us about an hour and a half.   With a little 
more effort, we could have set them up for another 40mm or so of rearward 
travel, but I don't need it.

The Miata seats are something like Quadrafoglio seats, I think.  There's 
more support out under your knees, they are much more supportive than the 
stock '72, or '84 Spider seats I've also had in the car.  I would not 
hesitate to take them on a trip of any length.  They are not as tight as 
the Recaros I've sat in.

Might as well mention my safety belts.  I have fitted 5 point racing 
harnesses to the car, but for those of you who are considering them for 
street use, in most traffic it is safer to use only the lap belts.  Reason 
is that the shoulder belts pin me to the seat back, and I can't turn to see 
behind me, reach the passenger side window winder, things like that.  I 
reckon the later model retracting lap/shoulder belts would be better for 
most street activities, though for the track or on AROO's more spirited 
tours, I'm part of the car in my 5-pts.
