Will it matter. After all they can probably fabricate a look alike box
which
is plug compatible with the original unit. Sure it will not be original,
but
then is anyone worried that when they rebuild an old engine they no
longer use an asbestos based head gasket?

There are plenty of computers dotted around a car. Given 20 years when
supplies of 2nd hand units start to dry up these units should be as
well understood as power steering is now.
