164Q Alarm going nuts

I am having an annoying problem with the alarm on my 164Q. I was getting out after a drive and I think as soon as I shut the car off and removed the key, the alarm went off. Luckily I was able to dive into the trunk and disarm it - but of course now none of my interior lights work, and the power locks won't respond to the key transmitter - and the rectangle light in the center of the instrument cluster is blinking.

The car clearly is in "lockdown" mode. But why should it be, when the alarm is disarmed?

The car seems to work OK when I put the key in the ignition (starts OK) but I really would like to return it to a normal condition, even if I lose the functionality of the alarm.

It seems the above behavior is normal in the event of the alarm being tripped off - but I have two questions at this point - 1) how do I "reset" the alarm, ie. tell it everything's fine, never mind, and 2) why did it go off in the first place.

While I may never know the answer to #2 (I hit the transmitter while pulling the key out of the ignition??), I am of course intensely interested in the answer to #1. I really expected that disarming it from the trunk switch would make it as if the alarm wasn't installed. Not so, apparently.

Anyone????

Thanks,
-Glenn
