164 mufflers
The center muffler on the 164 is a resonator, as for most exhaust systems.
Removal will not cause any problems except for noise. Each car is different
in terms of how much noise the resonator deals with but I suspect the 164
will be pretty growly without the resonator. Turbo cars tend to have small
resonators as the turbine acts as a damper for the low frequency booms that
the resonator is designed to muffle. There will be no noticeable
performance difference as modern exhausts are usually tuned to be optimal
with all components in place. The catalyst also acts as a resonator so the
center muffler is not as important as it used to be when it was the primary
resonator. Some jurisdictions will penalize you for loud exhaust.
