Thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry about
using rubbing compounds.  After using the compound
then a swirl mark remover and waxes I've decided the
car will have to be repainted.  I think the paint is
oxidized below the clear coat.  Fortunately this is on
the Fiat not my Alfa!
