Painting & blasting (new thread)



A fellow who drives a new Corvette always waves as he's leaving the
complex. Never met him until last night as I was putting the shop to
bed.

Turns out he has a company which cleans and paints industrial equipment.

Along with a large portable steam cleaner, he blasts (especially
contaminated equipment) with CO2 pellets. Not sure how this would work
on vehicles, but the wonderful thing is all you're left with in the end
is the contamination blasted off.

Anyone ever use it?

He also does most of his masking using aluminum foil. I painted more
stuff over the weekend and especially when masking off the complete (as
opposed to being dismantled) wheel axles, could have masked in minutes
rather than using the traditional method.

Painting: He uses a static electrical process. I've had primer applied
using static electricity on body panels after being acid dipped and of
course powder coating uses this process. I didn't ask, but assume he
uses special paints (powders?).

While I doubt if one could color match the paints, it sure would be a
neat process to use when painting engine bays, trunks, interiors, and
beneath the car, including suspension components. Not sure about you,
but I don't color sand and polish these areas. Applying one or two
coats, knowing it is getting into all the nooks and crannies, would be a
great time-saver as well as more thorough coverage.

I know there was a longish thread regarding whether Alfas were dipped
or?, but not sure if these processes have ever come up.
