off topic: SAAB musing

How come (old-school) SAABs use regular motor oil in their 
transmissions??  Is the differential oil separate? (I never saw a 
third drainplug.)  Does the dif not use a hypoid gear?  This just 
ocurred to me and I won't be able to sleep tonight until I find out 
the answer.
