Re: Fein 'Multimaster'

In AD8-0381 Mark Denovich praises the Fein 'Multimaster', a tool which became
very popular several years ago in its initial application (same tool, same
model number, different name) as a triangular pad detail sander primarily for
woodworking (precision sanding into corners, like inside a drawer, or deep
into close spaces, like between louvers) and which has since been much copied
(Ryobi, Bosch, etc.) but not bettered. It has since added a succession of
other functions with a versatile collection of accessories, including steel
saw blades, carbide grit blades, diamond blade, segmented diamond blade,
knives, felt polishing pads, etc., and will do things no other tool will do,
sanding to the middle of a pencil line or, on a car, polishing precisely to
the edge of a piece of trim. Neither it nor its accessories are cheap, but
nothing else will quite do what it can do. I would probably ignore the price
premium and spring for the variable-speed version rather than the single speed
unit he mentions - control is what you are buying, and more is better, but
YMMV.

The main point I want to add is that in addition to the MSX636 corded and
MSX315 cordless versions there is also a pneumatic version, the MSX625, which
I did not see mentioned on their website. It is smaller and lighter than the
electrics and takes all the same accessories, and people with an air-supplied
shop might prefer it, perhaps along with one of the cordless for last-minute
detail work at the concours.

Also no financial interest, also just a happy owner.
