Gentle Alfista,
I guess the presumed idea behind loosening all the head (nuts) before 
conductung routine retorqueing, would be to eliminate stresses within the 
head and allow the head to "reflatten" collectively, in response to the 
sequential, rotary application of torque to each stud. Perhaps the lateral 
play that each stud enjoys within it's respective opening makes this worry, 
well, less worrisome.
