Very good reason It doesn't get done, it won't tell you if the cat is
good or bad , just if it is working.  Overly lean or rich mixtures will
prevent light off.  Also won't tell you about catalyst efficiency.  If
say only the lower portion of the catalyst bed were functional you could
see a temp rise but still have a cat that won't get you past emissions. 
Only good way I know test is with  pre and post catalyst narrow band O2
sensors and a duel trace graphing volt meter.  The lean-rich toggling
should be visible in the pre trace and should be at least 3Hz, post
should be mostly flat never dropping below the tops of the pre wave form.
