Checking for a Bad Cat
Tom- Thanks for your info concerning a simple, logical way for me to
check if my cat is OK or not. I happen to have an infrared temperature
sensing gun, so it will be easy for me to do the test.
One of the reasons that it's a mystery to some of us to figure out how
to check the cat, is that it's hard to find (At least I couldn't find
it) the kind of basic explanation you provided of what to look for. I
couldn't find any non-technical references for checking the operation of
a catalytic converter. Certainly nothing as clear as checking to see if
the inlet and outlet temperatures were around 100 degrees F apart.
Thanks for making it easy to sort out. I think a lot of owners of
cat-equipped Alfas will benefit from your post. Thanks again.
