Joe-
Your problem sounds like an ignition misfire.  Check
the following:
Spark plugs- heavy deposits? clean or replace
Ign wires- check resistance and for cracks in the
insulation
Ballast resistors (at the ends of the ign wires)- look
for carbon tracks
I've seen these things cause a misfire, and it could
come and go with temp and moisture conditions.
