Re: V-6 engine ticking
Peter:
1. Try a loose exhaust manifold fastener. When they back off the seal breaks
between the manifold and the head and can make a racket.
2. I thought I had a noisy manifold on my 164 LS (quad cam V6), October a year
ago. Turned out to be the bearings in the timing belt tensioner beginning to fail.
5 hours and 300 miles later they were almost gone. Stopped the engine before
catastrophic failure occurred.
Diagnose the source of the sound with a stethoscope / or a piece of hose.
Pinpointing the source of the noise is key to an accurate diagnosis.
