Milano automatic transmission question

I have a 1988 Milano Platinum with an automatic transmission.  While 
driving the car the other day, the gear selector suddenly became very 
difficult to move from one position to another (It took a LOT of effort to 
move the selector to 'Park').  The car drives just fine, though.

I thought it would be worth while to see if anyone else has experienced a 
problem like this before I start tinkering with the car.  It looks like 
inspecting and repairing the linkage might be an interesting job!
