re: One more heater core question

hi glenn,

the heater core *is* always on - what keeps the heat outta the cabin is the flaps controlled by the stepper motor & drum, etc... when the core failed on my 12v 164, i'd only get steam into the cabin when i punched it and took the revs past 4k rpms... ;~) i fixed it soon after it 1st happened... :>)

it *is* a pita to fix, but nothing complicated - yust a bit of gruntwork to get the core out. everyting is done from the engine-bay side - the mini-firewall is tough to remove cuz of some filips-head screws that are hard to access. also, the a/c has to be discharged, & the dryer/filter, etc, removed. if yure like me & don't immediately re-assemble & re-charge the a/c, look forward to replacing the dryer as well, which ain't cheap... also, replace the heater-core hoses down there as long as ya have access - yule surely not wanna go there again anytime soon.
