164 Boot Springs

"Is there a special way or special tool of removing the trunk (boot)
support
springs and repositioning them to better hold the trunk open? Both a body
shop and my Alfa specialist tried and said the springs were too strong to
handle and there must be some kind of tool to do this. Vice grips does not
seem to be a creditable answer. Any ideas? Ted '91 164S, Vancouver, BC."

Vice Grips and brute force worked for me!  Maybe you need bigger Vice
Grips?
