re: 164 Wagon Model on eBay

Back in digest #233, Jess Liao noted that there was a 164 Wagon model on
ebay. It is still there, see:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1663341718

The seller states that it is a model of a prototype which was never put on
the market. The implication is that it was a factory effort, but this is
not confirmed and I suppose it could also have been a one-off by Colli or
some such coachbuilder known for this type of conversion. I am suprised to
find a model of this unusual car, since I don't recall seeing it pictured or
even mentioned in my admittedly rather limited Alfa library. The only 164
wagon/estate I have ever come across was the car which Tom Zat modified
using the rear end of a Ford Taurus wagon. That car is still for sale on
his Alfa Heaven web page (
http://www.alfaheaven.com/AHI_Text_Pages/AHIcars2.html ).

I'd be interested to hear more about this prototype, details such as who
produced it, how close it got to production, and so on. A 164 wagon would
be a nice family car, and it is a shame they never built them. I could buy
the Zat car, but it has been in storage for many years, and when I saw it
there was some rust around the Alfa/Ford boundaries. Perhaps John H
(esteemed or otherwise, although he most certainly is esteemed by me) could
fill in a little on the history of Colli's Alfa wagons, if we ask nicely.

Thanks in advance,
