Re: La Carrera Results

Hello All!

Many Congrats to the team of Martin and Patrick driving their Mike Besic Prepared Giulietta Sprint.
I have followed this trip from the begining and even helped them locate the Giulietta. The car belonged to a good friend of mine (and long time Alfa enthusiast) in Michigan. They purchased the car early in the year, Mike began the work in about March and was able to fit it in with his reqular customer work and Bonneville prep. The complete race prep was pretty involved: Roll Cage, Disk Brakes, Fuel Cell, Built 1750 installed, etc.....By July the car was running. Patrick brought the car to the Ferrari Club of America track event at the end of the month it was running well but had a few minor problems to get sorted. I got a great ride with Martin in the car. We literally laughed our way around track for several laps as Martin slid the car around at will. The Sprint just howled that wonderul Alfa howl and felt like it could do it for days on end. Not the fastest ride of the day but certainly the most fun. Of course, the car did develop a problem. Eventually, it turned out that the head on the 1750 had a bi
t too much mill work (not Mike's fault as the head was sourced from elseware) and the resulting detonation actually fractured a piston or two. That eventually was just a few weeks ago and literally finished the car just a few hours before it was loaded on the trailer to go to Mexico. Does'nt it always go this way?

Fast forward to early this afternoon....Martin, Patrick and Mike called me on their cell phone to tell me that they had won their class! The car used a 1/2 quart of oil and two starters during the entire race. They did'nt even scratch it! The were clearly thrilled with the results. Much credit to Mike Besic and his prep. Much credit to Martin and Patrick for keeping it out of the trees.

Congrats!
