windshield sealant

With the rainy season approaching i would like to re-seal the windshield
on my Milano, as the old stuff looks dried out and cracked. There also
appear to be some sizeable gaps (1-2 mm) in the corner areas, all of
which look like they could benefit from being filled and sealed before
things get wet again.

However, i vaguely recollect hearing that typical silicone based
sealants can actually be harmful in that they can trap moisture and lead
to accelerated corrosion in these areas, or perhaps it had something to
do with the chemical composition of silicone itself.

At any rate, could someone please comment on what compound/sealant would
work best for this application? Permatex makes a 'windshield sealant'
which seems designed for just this use, but i suspect that it contains
silicone as well. On top of that, most sealers are clear or white, and
i would prefer a black one to match the existing sealant as well as the
black plastic windshield gasket/trim piece.

So what is the correct stuff to use?
