Jacking points on a Spider
If you can get a floor jack under the front suspension, jack one side
at a time until you can get a couple of tubba fours under the tire. Do the
same on the other side. Eventually the front will be high enough to get a
floor jack under the front crossmember behind the oil pan sump.
My 82 and 84 spiders are so low, I have to drive onto a tubba four to
even get the floor jack under the suspension.
Or drive the front wheels up onto a ramp. Then lift the rear under
the center of the rear axle and put in jack stands.
If you need to work on the front suspension, lift the car off the
ramps and replace with jack stands. Put the floor jack under the crossmember
to lift. Some people suggest a board on top of the jack to prevent denting
the cross member. I have lifted spiders for years with no problem.
For my race car, I put the floor jack under the rocker panel slightly
forward of the middle of the doors and lift one side at a time. That is the
quickest way to get both the front and back up in the air. I normally do not
take my ramps to the track. This is not recommended if your rockers are
rusty or you are really proud of the paint job.
