reconditioning hood cowl plastic

I am wondering what the best, most long-lasting way of reconditioning the
color-matched plastic piece of the hood cowl would be.  My silver '86 spider
cowling is faded and kind of splotchy.  Can it be painted?  dyed?  or should
I just suffer it?
