re: Oil in Water

Stefano asked:

<<Hey cats,

I know that water in the oil will cause engine damage because the oil is
lubricating the engine, but what is the risk of waiting on a head
gasket change when there is oil in the water? As long as I keep checking
the oil and find it clean and up to the level, how long can
one wait? I'm not quite ready for a gasket change on this car.>>

My tuppence, and remember I am not a mechanic, and have never played one
on TV-----

If the problem IS a head gasket, you stand the chance of contaminating
the water AND the oil, at some time. Any time could be a bad time. I
would plan to get it fixed at your earliest convenience. "Earliest
convenience" may sound like an oxymoron, but trust me, it can get
worse. Valve job/head gasket is lots less money than a mandatory
rebuild.
