rod nuts; main bearing nuts

Thing 1:

From earlier: "Not sure I understand the Question 2: "Aren't the big end rod
nuts mounted with the 'small' end on the rod cap?" but if it means what I
think it might mean, then no; the 'small' end of the nut would contain the
nylock portion, and the hex end, with shoulder, would seat on the rod cap."

If I remember right from looking at an apart motor, the 4-cylinder rod nuts
do have the smaller diameter part with no wrench flats, upwards toward the
rod. The larger diameter hex end with wrench flats, goes downward away from
the rod. The stock rod nuts are not lock nuts, more like a reverse
shouldered nut. They used to specify lock tabs for these nuts, at least
back in the 1600 days, but I don't think they're supplied anymore. Torque,
with Loctite?

Thing 2:

The guy who found a main bearing nut in his Spider's oil pan: was it the
main bearing nut itself, or the thin stamped steel locknut that threads on
afterward? If just the locknut, I'd worry a little, but not nearly as much
as if it were the holding nut itself.

I'll look at one of my in-pieces engines tonight at home about the rod nuts.
